The pesticide caused neurological damage in bugs, leading to organ failure—symptoms that compared to those with polio. Dr. Ralph Scobey and Dr. Morton Biskind testified before the U.S. Congress in 1951 that the paralysis occurring around the country, known as polio, was being caused by industrial poisons and that the virus theory was purposely fabricated by the chemical industry and the government to deflect litigation away from both parties. In 1956, the American Medical Association instructed doctors that they could no longer classify polio as polio.
